 - "4 Bears Casino and Lodge is located on the shores of beautiful Lake Sakakawea. Just 4 miles west of New Town, ND on Highway 23, 4 Bears Casino & Lodge has been described as the gateway to the Badlands of North Dakota. Three Affiliated Tribes Museum is located next to the casino with tribal artifacts that reveal the history of the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara people. Lewis and Clark spent the winter with our people and acquired a famous guide Sakakawea. CULTURE

From Indians.org we find three Arikara stories, An Address to Mother Corn , How Antelope Carrier Saved the Thunderbirds and Became the Chief of the Winged Creatures, and How Corn Came to the Earth.
Contains two stories, The Corn Ceremony and the Sun Dance.

EDUCATION

- Located in New Town, ND with satellite campuses in each segment of the reservation.
- This Teacher's guide from the National Park Service provides history and social science teachers, with information and activities about the American Indians of the Northern Plains, of the Knife River area where it enters the Missouri at all grade levels. This area is now Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site.
 

 

 


HISTORY

- Located in Stanton, ND.
-  An online text version of the George Catlin book published in 1844 containing many references to the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara (Sanish)
-Description of the Mandan villages at the time of the Lewis & Clark expedition, 1804 from PBS.
-An article that presents the disputed Mandan - Welsh origin hypothesis by Charles W. Moore. :) - Remember this is not supported by the Mandan people.
